We begin the story of Energy at the absolute edge of understanding. Before stars, before atoms, and even before the "Big Bang" explosion as we typically visualize it, there was the Planck Epoch. Lasting only for the first 10^-43 seconds of time, this was a state of reality where the laws of physics break down. Gravity was as strong as the nuclear forces. Space-time was likely a churning, "foamy" mess of quantum probability rather than a smooth fabric. It serves as the silent, invisible ancestor to everything in this Archive—the singular reservoir of potential from which all subsequent energy flowed. The Planck Epoch represents the ultimate boundary of our knowledge, a place where current physics cannot penetrate. It is the beginning of everything, compressed into an unimaginably small and hot state.
Why We Use the Map

If the Planck Epoch is invisible, why do we represent it with the colorful Planck Map (the Cosmic Microwave Background)? Because the map is the "fossil record" of that time. The tiny speckles of blue and red on the map—differences in temperature of just a millionth of a degree—correspond to Quantum Fluctuations that occurred during the Planck Epoch and the Inflation that immediately followed. These microscopic jitters in the energy field were stretched by the expansion of the universe until they became the size of galaxies. When we look at the Planck Map, we are looking at a magnifying glass held up to the first fraction of a second. The CMB map is our only window into the Planck Epoch, showing us the quantum seeds that would grow into all the structure we see in the universe today.
The Unified Force
In our modern world, we experience energy in distinct forms: gravity holds us down, electricity powers our screens, nuclear forces hold atoms together. In the Planck Epoch, this distinction did not exist. The temperature was so high (10^32 Kelvin, known as Absolute Hot) that all forces were fused into one Grand Unified Force.
